WHAT IS SONG WRITERS RETREAT?

Songwriters retreat is a boutique environment that offers 12 songwriters and creative leaders an opportunity to write, collaborate, and receive instruction, inspiration and ministry. We fully celebrate each person’s diversity and call of God on their life. This is all accomplished in a fully catered 5 star environment, conducive to your creative experience.

DETAILS

Arrival: 6pm Sunday. Concludes lunchtime Thursday.

Cost: Includes tuition, all food and accommodation (twin share), linen, towels etc as well as a recording & mastering of at least one song. The full cost for 2016 is $999 all included. Deposit of $150 needs to be paid to secure your place.

Note: If you have any special dietary requirements (like chocolate). Please let us know.

Bring: Bring what you would like to wear. Dress is as comfortable as you want – yes you can wear your uggs! BTW – There is a tennis court, pool & a spa so come prepared!

Bring: Bible, writing tools, instruments, anything that helps you create. A teachable heart and open mind.

Bring: a song you are currently working on or some new ideas that we can workshop with you. At least one keyboard will be there to use or bring your own with some headphones.

PROGRAM

While the final details of the program are still being discussed, we hope the following will be accomplished in the 4 days

Understanding the basics of song writing
Learning how to deconstruct and re-engineer songs
Recording of at least one song (scratch track)
Collaborative song writing
One on one consulting
Free writing time· and lots of it, in a phenomenal environment
Connection with other writers

What we need from you

What we desire is to find writers of songs that are already writing and capturing the heart of God for His people, and help them grow in their craft and passion. So we would love to get an MP3 of just one worship song that you have written either sung by the people at your church or yourself, just a recording from the house desk, or the tune (with words) recorded on your phone. Email it to john.crawford@thrivechurch.com.au

We would like also to receive a short note, letter, email, or phone call from your senior pastor acknowledging your ministry in your local home church. See the contact page for details. We will also need a full financial commitment up front to secure your place.

The Hosts

John Crawford

Pete Wallis

Collectively over 70 years of experience in writing, playing, recording, producing, teaching, scoring, conducting, leading and more… at secondary & tertiary levels, at home & abroard.

Peter Wallis is an outstanding musician and sound engineer. He has a Bachelor of Music Education (UNSW) & Associate Diploma in Jazz Studies from Sydney Conservatorium. Pete has taught and lectured at Hillsong College for many years. Peter has over 20 years of experience in the production of many Hillsong albums and up until recently, was the studio manager. He has had a large part to play in hundreds of songs that have come from the Hillsong Church. He has also worked extensively internationally. We are incredibly blessed to have him share with us. Peter is married to Lorraine (who will join us) and have a beautiful daughter, Tiana.

John Crawford also has a background in music from Sydney Conservatorium (Dip Mus Ed). He has worked in areas ranging from teaching to performing, arranging to writing in a variety of genres. He has worked many hours with Peter in the studio as well as lectured at Hillsong College, and taught many Music & Worship seminars. John is currently lead pastor at Thrive Church in Lake Macquarie. He’s married to Yvonne and has four children: Amy, Sarah, Jesse and Jacob. He is the host for this Retreat.
